How AION 2 pet farming works

Each pet has its own Souls, dropped by certain monsters. Collect enough of them and the pet is registered, then levels up. Global pets stop at level 3. Every level adds the pet's Owned Effect stats, and pets count for every character on your account on that server. The global version has between 200 and 209 pets, depending on how they are counted.

AION 2 Cogni pets

Cogni is one of the 5 pet genera, the one whose pets give HP, Critical Hit and Might. A level 3 Cogni pet such as the Krall Warshaman or the Dratona gives HP 30, Critical Hit 2 and Might 1. Dratona Tinkerers and the other Dratona drop the Dratona, a Cogni pet. Elyos reach them through a Spacetime Rift. Where: Altgard (Asmodian map). Every Cogni pet you register also adds Genus XP to the Cogni wheel of Genus Insight, explained below.

A Spacetime Rift opens every 3 hours; the AION 2 rift timer counts down to the next one in your time zone.

Best places to farm pets in AION 2

The best place is wherever several pets you still need live together. While you level, that is your own home map: Verteron (Elyos) or Altgard (Asmodians). Most pets come from monsters on your own side. Start with the areas closest to you and work outward. At level 45 the biggest spots are Chaotic Lower Reshanta (the Abyss), with 25 pets, open to both factions; and Immortal Isle, off the south of Altgard, with 23 pets on one island (monsters level 48 to 51). Pets that only live on the other side wait on the other faction's map, through a Spacetime Rift.

The Elyos spots in Verteron are not confirmed yet; until then, the pet's Source in the Pets menu shows where its monsters are.

How to farm pets faster

Open the pet in the Pets menu and check its Source: it lists the monsters that drop its Souls and their maps. The monster's name on the map is not always the pet's name (Krall Warrior Souls come from Krall Test Subjects, for example).
Farm an area where several pets you still need live together, instead of crossing the map for one pet.
Not every kill drops a Soul, so plan for more kills than the Soul count.
The Pet Auto-Loot Voucher from the Wind Breeze Merchants picks up Souls for you; without it you press F on each one.
The Black Cloud Merchant changes its stock every hour and sometimes sells pets that are hard to farm.
The Shugo Festival shop sells Soul Crystals at a price of 20 each, up to 10 a week.

How to get the Azure Flame Kumiho and the Black Dragon pet

These two pets do not come from the pet map above. The Azure Flame Kumiho is sold in the in-game Shop, under Atelier > Weapons/Wings/Pets > Products, for $19.99 (the Purple Store price; other stores can differ), once per server. It is on sale from the October 28 maintenance until the maintenance on November 10 (PST) and earns 2,900 Mileage. The Glossy Pink Puppy is sold the same way in the same weeks. In NC's posts the Kumiho appears only as a Shop pet.

After you buy it, claim it from Shop > Storage; it then shows up in your Pets menu. It cannot be traded or deleted. The same shop also opens from the Closet (In-Game Menu > Closet > Shop), and in Europe the sale ends with the maintenance on November 11 (CET).

The Black Dragon is the pet in the Ultimate Founder's Pack, together with the Moonlit Aria armor skin, the Blazing Sun wings and the Daeva's Styling Chest, and NC says you can ride it. Since NC's October 3 change it works on every character on the account, on any server. In NC's announcements so far it appears only in that pack; what each pack holds is on our AION 2 membership and Founder's Pack page.

Genus Insight: what it is and how to level it

Genus Insight is a wheel of extra stats for each genus. Every pet you register or level up gives XP to its wheel, and each analysis line you roll gives 100 XP more. Level your pets first; Genus Insight is cheaper that way.

Hidden Cubes in the open world open with a key and give about 1,000 Soul Crystals, the fastest way to raise a wheel. You can find them by the sound they make nearby, and since NC's October 27 patch they appear more often.
Locking lines you want to keep makes every new analysis cost more.
Odds at Insight level 10: Heroic 5%, Unique 15%, Epic 30%, Rare 30%, Common 20%.
All wheels at level 10 unlock the title Unbound by Genus.

Not settled yet

Pet level cap: global pets stop at level 3. Korean pets go to level 5, so their stat numbers are higher.
Number of pets: counts run from 200 to 209 for the global version, depending on whether event pets count.
When to farm: some players farm pets on the way up, others wait for level 45 and a stronger character, when farming goes faster.
One genus or all: some players farm Cogni pets only at first; others farm every pet in an area, because pets of all kinds share the same spots.
